unesco heritage split ~ dalmatia, HR

the next unesco heritage site on our road was croatia's 2nd biggest city, split (spalato). here are not only the remainings of the palace of the roman emperor diocletian at the unesco list, but the whole old city, too.

it was a rainy, but a warm day and it was extremely difficult to find any parking slot. split was not really nice, but nevertheless interesting to see 😇

imho it was not possible to imagine how could the place look like in the past being inside in the middle of the palace. so let see a picture of the reconstruction of the palace in its original appearance upon completion in 305 AD by ernest hébrard below:

sure! the romans are still there 😂
this square at the sea remembers me on trieste (italy).
yes, triest is nicer than split, you know?
you will find EVERYWHERE the colors of the lokal soccer club hajduk split ⚽
new meets old in split 😇

the 15m deep salt water lake dragon's eye (drachenauge, zmajevo oko) is just about 100m away from the sea ~ rogoznica, dalmatia
hotel marina frapa resort in rogoznica was the best hotel at our 4 trips to croatia this year.

i'm not sure if you know that sibenik is for the most visitors also the base camp for the water, water, water NP krka (river). but my wife and me decided to stay directly in the beautiful NP last year 😄
