SICILY - city of TAORMINA

our next stop in north-eatern sicily was the city of TAORMINA.
even if is not an unesco heritage like the few former stops (syracuse, ragusa, noto, modica), we liked it a lot. unlike in germany and middle europe, in sicily are the cities often built on the top of the mountains instead in valleys. well, today we were so tired from all that walking, that after the sightseeing in upper taormina called castelmola and walking from parking place to the old city center, we indeed walked just from the nicest old city gate porta messina through the horizontal street corso umberto to the square piazza IX. Aprile and did not walk any street up or down 😄. than we had some drinks in the mocambo bar and just watched tourists and locals how they run past :-). next time we will catch the cable car, promised 😈

Pater Pio (San Pio), one of the most famous healers
restaurant / taverna san giorgio (s. giorgio since 1700) with fantastic view over taormina and tasty almond wine / liqueur from their own production

unfortunately, wars were always part of human experience :-(
