castles of south tirol

the weather was quite bad, so instead of hiking i've spend a lot of time visiting different castles in northern south tirol (brixen area). my craziest experience? they've locked me in the castle trostburg for half an hour or more ... hahaha, i've been there much earlier before they've opened for tourists and didn't see anyone at the gate and thus just walked in ... later it was closed, so i just talked to the castle ghosts and waited for the first tourist excursion of the day to come out 😂

castle engelsburg in neustift abbey, in vahrn (varna) - brixen, ITA

here we go, the castles i've visited in südtirol (italien) this time:

  • engelsburg (arts gallery) at kloster neustift (neustift abbey)
  • ruin mühlbacher klause at mühlbach, rienz river, pustertal
  • ruin salern castle in salern over the city/village of vahrn (here i have been twice. alone + with my wife to enjoy the view over 'our' eisack river valley)
  • ruin wallburg nössing (bronze age) next to neustift abbey
  • rodenegg in vill (private, partly open as museum)
  • trostburg in waidbruck (museum)
  • city of brixen (bressassone) - yep, there are castles too (hofburg, campan)
  • ehrenburg (private, closed for public)
