venice, italy, IT

first we took burano, now we take VENICE! (leonhard cohen)

there would be sooo much to say about the unesco heritage island city of venice (venezia, venetia, venecia, venedig, wenecja, benatky, ...), its past + former powers and glory (it was not just the marco polo), its canals + architecture, its arts, its economy, its streets crowded by tourists. did you know that you have to pay an entry day tax of 10 EUR, at least when arriving by boat like we did after a 20-30 minutes nice boat trip from the jesolo peninsula through the venetian lagoon with stop-over at the island of lido ... => heaven & hell! an entry fee for a city, not for a museum / monastery / temple site or the like! well, i've been to venice already twice before, but it was so many years ago, that we've had analog film photography then 😎. of course, i enjoy the opportunity to share few digital pictures with you here today.

what suprised me most? 

• it was not totally overcrowded, so we could easily find a nice place for food + drinks whenever we liked. only for the church / tower / museums in some palaces at and around the piaza san marco you should book an ticket online at least a day in advance
• the canals were not smelly. maybe because it was mid of may and the ugly stink comes later in hot summertime? or maybe the city managed its waste + smell problem in the meantime? who knows?
• it was not expensive here compared to munich as we could have a lunch and later coffee + cake + beer (?) close to the very city center (st. marco square) for reasonable prices

we have spent a cold and mostly rainy week in a camping site at the sand dunes in ca' savio at the long and slim jesolo peninsula, thus all my italy-insights are placed already in that earlier blog. lets add only few interesting pictures here:
