class reunion after 37 years, stara bystrica, SK

we have been a quite a good class in the high school, you know? even if many of us left our home slovakia many years ago, approximately two thirds of us regularly come to our classmates weekend in the hills, which we organize every 2 or 3 years ... also this time, after 37 years, we have been 18-20 folks out of 29 in the northwestern slovakia, in the tourist village of stara bystrica in the mala fatra mountains close to terchova. btw, slovakia is beautiful, so make clear you can visitslovakia one day, cant you? 😀 ... our tourist village stara bystrica, was special in three ways:

  • thx to their major they did not waste the european union funds to make single persons rich, but they've commissioned an artist / architect and restored many of their communal owned buildings like the town hall, school, shopping center, pub and few more in a special wooden coated wayx .. he has even built a wooden astronomical clock at the town aka village hall ... it is not nearle as nice as the clock in prague, but anyway much better as a grey, half-forfeited town hall in many other places in slovakia, if you asked me
  • they produce & sell sheep 🐑 milk (zincica) and sheep cheese all over the place, even in front of the church before a mass on sunday
  • they've bears 🐻 on the other side of the small bystrica river

btw, out of 29 students live currently 9 - 10 abroad (czech republic, austria, germany, great britain, canada, usa + australia). many of us 'foreigners' come to our nice meetigs each time, you know?

there was a small canyon on the way up
6 of us dared the short, but not easy climbing excercise to the summit of maly rozsutec (1343m)

erzgebirge, DE-CZ

erzgebirge (ore mountains, krusne hory) in saxony, sachsen, DE-SN => we lived in the hotel altes zollhaus in neuhermsdorf (aka hermsdorf / erzgebirge). it used to be a toll house between saxony and bohemia when established in 1343, you know?

i've enjoyed 1 week of mobile work + yoga + arts exhibition in out hotel + walking around in the forest + the visit of the frauenstein castle ruins. it was also nice to speak slovak to the many czech employees at reception & restaurant, to enjoy the good food @ 'our' altes zollhaus and to visit old friends from munich in komotau, CZ. of course, we tanked also the cheap & tasty beer 'gambrinus' + cheap gas behind the border in the czech republic 🍺🚗😉

what else? the snow fell in the 1st night and lasted for 1.5 days, so we could walk in white surroundings for the last time this winter season and find a former railway road, the ski jumping hill (sprungschanze) zollhausschanze and of course also the small unremarkable hirschbach (polterbach) creek, which marks the border between germany and czech republic.

erzgebirge = ore mountains
hirschbach creek, germany & czech republic.
can you tell the difference? CZ + DE😁
swimming in winter? nice ⛄
