vaduz, liechtenstein (LI)

the mini state of liechtenstein jammed (eingequetscht) between switzerland and austria was the 2nd stop for my youngest daughter + me after leutkirch/DE on our way to matterhorn/CH. we've slept in the quite new hotel vaduzer hof in the capital vaduz which was 1st mentioned in 1150. our hotel was operated by machines + check-in terminals + key cards ... well, the room was much too expensive + too small, the view from our balcony great and the breakfast quite fine. anyway, the best was our hotel's central location next to the town hall and to the pedestrian zone. so we could enjoy the 5,000 souls small city in the evening and the castle above it next morning 😃

just in case you didnt know, there are approx 41,000 people in the monarchy liechtenstein. they speak german, use the swiss franc as their currency and the country code car plate is FL (= fürstentum liechtenstein). besides all their banks + investment funds which utilize liechtenstein's special legal status outside the EU, there is also quite a lot industry (e.g. hilti drilling machines which employs worldwide about 34,000 people) and tourism in this alpine region, the highest peak is grauspitz 2599m ...

the vaduz castle is the place where the prince / monarch still lives

leutkirch im allgäu, DE

what a nice stop-over at our tour to matterhorn / switzerland in leutkirch im allgäu, in the federal state of baden-württemberg (BW), germany (DE). why leutkirch? well, we were hungry and decided to eat cheap in germany before we'd cross the swiss border ... well, my daughter and me have paid 70-80 euro for 2 main dishes and 1 drink each (or 3 in total?) ... which is not cheap, if you asked me. at least we've been conditioned to pay 80-90 swiss francs later 😂
