friedrichshafen, lake bodensee (lake constance), BW-DE

lets spend the loooong easter weekend at the lake bodensee aka lake constance, in the federal state of baden-württemberg, DE 😄

we've decided to stay in buchhorn aka friedrichshafen in the hotel plaza buchhorner hof, directly at the lake side ... we knew already the bavarian city of lindau located on an island in the lake constance, the pfänder mountain at the DE-AT border and the city of bregenz, austria (all of them visited in 2014), so we were eager to explore s.th. new this time ...

why buchhorn or even older buchorn? there was a marriage of monastery kloster hofen (today also called schloß friedrichshafen castle) + city of buchhorn in 1811 => new city is called friedrichshafen since then 😉

friedrichshafen is the city of the dornier airplanes, the zeppelin airships, the gearbox (getriebe) + car & airplanes components manufacturer ZF (Zahnradfabrik) and the maybach cars + engines. no wonder it was almost completely destroyed in WWII bombings by the british air force. in june 1943 they've bombed the zeppelin factory and in april 1944 the complete old city and residential suburbs.

our 'lake view' the next 3 days ... and you know what? the hotel backside is really really quiet and these two brick houses are maybe the only 2 blocks in the city center which survived the heavy bombings in 1944 if you asked me👹 => no more wars 😇

i'm curious if they hided some extraordinary rare wine or whiskey here?
many, many pictures like this out there. here was this spa house before british WWII bombings in april 1944 (this house in particular was 'only' heavily damaged and torn down later ... most others were compeltely destroyed, their inhabitants killed and the houses never build up again)

lets walk through the city center ...
there is not a single historic building ...  maybe just the tower
of the church below was restored. the church itself bombed-out
