FFB (fürstenfeldbruck) + swimming in the amper river

many many years ago, as our adult children were just two small girls 😄, we used to visit fürstenfeldbruck (FFB) almost every week. why? well, there was our favorite swimming pool 'amper oase' with a slide, low entrance fee, two children pools and even a steam bath with a light show inside. on top, it was possible to use both, the outdoor and the indoor area, so we were completely weather independent there. in the earlier years, it was even allowed to swim in the amper river in summer, which flows through its summer aka outdoor bath area. and yes, the price of the iced coffee at our first visit in the summer season was our yearly price inflation barometer. today i measure the inflation via the price of a mug beer 🍻 at the oktoberfest. just to make sure, thanks to central banks and their small dirty fiat money, the price of both, iced coffe & beer, never went down and never stayed unchanged in my life time, if you asked me 😇

the fürstenfeld abbey ~ this former cistercian convent (zisterzienserinnenkloster) is a
police academy today. anyway, its church and restaurant klosterstüberl are open to public.

there were and still are 4 more positive 'issues' out there:

  • it was just 20 - 25 minutes away by car
  • the fürstenfeld monastery with a mumia / skeleton in a glass coffin in the monastery church was a target our children liked to see quite often
  • a fitness trail (trimm-dich-pfad) in the forest with many interesting exercises + a nice walking path with a small lake, too
  • an uncle of mine lives there

and yes, we never really managed to see its small city center, not even when we lost the last hope to get some food that evening 😅

enjoy few pictures:
i have much nicer sunny pictures in memory, but not in the camera this murky april day

beer prices in munich's oktoberfest. yeah, you know now what i meant as i sworn
about the small dirty central banks and their man made inflation? 👹 source here.

i hope we will get a chance to swim in the amper river close to FFB soon, so i will promote this blog post via facebook + twitter + whatsapp later in july or august. do you agree?

addendum july, 30th:
yeah, we got the chance to swim in the amper river between schöngeising and FFB. enjoy few pics from the beergarden "zum unter'n wirt" with a lawn for sunbathing & swimming 🐋

stift heiligenkreuz (monastery) - austria

on my road to our old classmates meet up in the czech republic, i and my young fellow passenger have had a beautiful break at the 900+ years old heiligenkreuz abbey in the wienerwald forest close to vienna, austria. it was built in 1133 and is the 2nd oldest perpetually occupied cistercian abbey in the world (next to the 4 years older rein abbey).
what a nice hall in the heiligenkreuz monastery

well, on my way back through austria i did not have much luck on the highway. i've been 29 km per hour to fast in one police control and had to pay a 100€ fine later 😢. i simply didn't seen the sign for speed reduction and my stupid car navigation does not show the usual speed limits on the road 😧.
enjoy few pictures:
