schwabach, franconia

on our way back from a great, great birthday party in nuremberg (nürnberg), we have visited the medieval franconian (fränkisch, franken) city of schwabach. did you know that schwabach is also the (czeck + slovak) name of the old german 'gothic' scripture (schrift) from 15th century also called schwabacher / schwabacher scripture.
enjoy few pictures + insights, but first please reward our under brute pressure enforced trial to paint the expression of our souls :-)

schwabach (i love these timber framework houses (fakwerkhäuser)):
there was the yearly schwabacher funfair, too
(modern) virgin mary in front of the main church in schwabach?

of course we did not miss the chance to swim in the beautiful lake pfraundorfer see near beilngries

cadolzburg ~ politics then and now

our next station in franconia? cadolzburg, the small sleepy medieval city with castle, old watchtower, nice timber framing houses ...
the most impressive insight? there have been clever politicians working for their people many years ago out there! just read what the former mayor, hans brandstätter, provided to his city: train line, watchtower, water conduit, electric power + school, ... we miss politicians of this determination today, don't we?

1157 - 2017 = 860 years old and still healthy 😇

what a clever mayor! thanks, hans brandstätter :-)

zirndorf ~ alice in wonderland

what a nice weekend in franconia (franken, frankenstein?). first we visited a amateur musical 'alice in wonderland, new story' by friends of us (STS youngster department) in zirndorf, which was a crazy + funny + professional performance and we laughed a lot ... and yes, they have beautiful girls on stage :-)

after the event we had great dinner at a small greek restaurant out there. like nuremberg (nürnberg), zirndorf is also a nice medieval franconian (fränkisch) city, but of course much much smaller.
our top performer, gina 😄
  • if you have no target, then every way leads there (wenn du kein ziel hast, dann führen alle wege dorthin)
  • the caterpillar helped me to ask who i am. the cat taught me to go where the life directs me. the knight showed me there are heroes in our life. finally, the rabbit taught me that the time runs fast and when a moment flies away, we never ever can bring it back.

medieval zirndorf
the small greek guy ~ nice greek restaurant with great food + atmosphere, but not cheap
a good opportunity to see the timber-framed-houses a liitle bit closer
the local zirndorf brewery ~ brauerei zirndorf
kirche im dorf lassen? so true 😇
the bakery götz
i'm not sure why i like franconia that much. is it the timber framing house build style (fachwerkhaus), the beautiful nature, my franconian friends or the good experience i've had in 1996 working in nuremberg for almost 1 year? well, maybe all of that :-)

the 'holy' / church city of eichstätt

what about our nice birthday party in cadolzburg close to nuremberg / nürnberg? well, we met friends and listened to the frankonian (fränkisch) cabaret artist sven bach. unfortunately, there are not many pictures i can show you. why? well, my wife and her hypnosis therapist friend didn't censored their dirndl pictures by now. i fear they will not allow me to post them in the internet as they are prettier as the police allows :-)
happy birthday, dear dimitra ;-)
anyway, at the way back to munich we have visited the historic and 'holy' city of eichstätt with its catholic university, dome, bishop, many many churches, ...

peace :-)

the walk around and the castle willibaldsburg were the places we liked most
few messages :-)
good-bye, eichstätt
what about swimming in irgertsheim?
