our uckermark (UC) in brandenburg (BB) = lakes + ostriches. it is as easy as that😄. this time combined with 1 week of mobile work for me 💻
our long journey from munich? we've divided this 720 km + 7.5 h trip in 5 nice + interesting stages and spent 3 nights on the road (pls try to make all calculations needed by yourself, will you?):
- spa bad berneck in bavaria
- bitterfeld in sachsen-anhalt
- schkopau castle in sachsen-anhalt at the return trip (the same link as for bitterfeld)
in the list below you will find our stops in brandenburg (BB) this time. why so many after we have reached 'our' final destination, the ostrich farm rätz? well, there are so few people here in the uckermark area that it is hard to find an open restaurant in the evenings. as we have had self-catering & farm food during the day, we've decided to drive 3 times approx 25 km to angermünde + templin + prenzlau just to get s.th. regional to eat. okay, let's define a greek restaurant as a regional sightseeing opportunity, too. as we knew already templin from a former visit, we enjoyed the chance to explore the other 2 destinations angermünde + prenzlau. dear BB, here we go:
- beelitz-heilstätten ~ beautiful former sanitariums for lung diseases south of berlin in a nice forest. today are some still in use, few others are slowly reconstructed
- lake werbellinsee ~ altenhof
- nice restaurant 'alte fischerei' at or even over the lake (wooden terrace)
- heaven & hell! 55 €uro fine for parking at some strip behind the overfilled parking area => quite an expensive lunch & swimming break 😇
- historical uckermark area, but not longer in the current administrative district UC
- historical (emperor) kaiser wilhelm II train station joachimsthal ~ located in the historical uckermark area, but not longer in the current administrative district UC
- berkenlatten, ostrich farm rätz (UC) ~ our final destination 🐋🐓🍀
- fredenwalde ~ small village with interesting oddity! many houses had plates with old pictures + their history, like e.g. a former smithy, a guest house etc. ... there was also a castle like manor-house, a not reconstructed church with a former timber-wooded tower, a community change & donate & reuse 'shop' and somewhere at the hill a really old (8,000 years?) and allegedly oldest cemetery in germany, which we did not find this time. maybe in 2024, who knows?
- lake sabinensee in willmine, close to berkenlatten = our daily swimming exercise before breakfast
- gerswalde
- angermünde + lake mündesee
- like-minded people protesting against corona measures & government
- about 50 €uro fine for driving too fast in a 30 km/h zone
- templin + lake templiner stadtsee
- prenzlau + lake unteruckersee ~ sad fucked up WWII victim as in april 1945 were 85% of the city center completely destroyed ... and not much was rebuilt since then
- berlin ~ we basically just drove through in both directions and stopped just for a coffee + pee somewhere in the north-western part of the city
