sibanye - we are one

sibanye gold? an unknown company with over 100 years of history? yes, both.
sibanye gold limited is a south african mining company created in 11/2012 and listed in 2013 at the london + new york stock exchanges, after gold fields (which was founded in 1887) unbundled its south african mining activities and the old gold mines Kloof, Driefontein and Beatrix in the west Witwatersrand Basin (West Wits) as well as various service companies became part of sibanye gold limited.

well, i've enjoyed the presentation by CEO neal froneman in munich presented by jochen staiger's SRC (swiss resource capital)
sibanye means 'we are one' in the isiXhosa language
source of both pictures: company website https://www.sibanyegold.co.za/

few key notes about sibanye:
  • 9th biggest gold producer in the world with 1.5 million ounces yearly production
  • 5th biggest PGM producer (platinum group metals: platinum + palladium) after acquisition of aquarius platinum limited. with the newly acquired rustenburg platinum mine probably soon the 4th largest PGM producer
  • because of 100+ years of underground mining, the current deep is approx. 4 km, but with modern mining methods there is also more stuff not that deep
  • approx. 5% yearly dividend
  • current market cap 2.14 billion USD
  • huge employer in south africa with approx. 60,000 employees
  • responsible, safe and sustainable operations with good relationships to trade unions and local communities, which is not only nice but also needed for successful operations in south africa :-)
  • for me it seems to be stock which i really can 'buy and hold' for long, long, time
  • etc.
more coming soon or never :-)

champagne meets investment

cheers!

where 2 start and where 2 end? hell, what a question on a day like that! folks, that was on thursday, a day when the small and till then not too succesful slovakian soccer team have beaten the reigning world champion italy in a crazy game 3 : 2 and thus qualified 4 the play-offs at the world championship in south africa :-)). go slovakia go! how 2 celebrate a success like that? folks, believe me, champagne meets investment was the right event 2 visit! well, it was organized by a small financial planning company EFC in the beautiful rooms of the old arco-palais in the very centre of munich. of course, there was a small entrance fee in order 2 avoid investment folks who just wanna eat and drink for free ...

the topics 2day?
  • real estate fund (tax saving investment, duration approx 10 years)
  • solar energy fund (a 20 years green investment with already defined 'government' prices 4 solar energy)
  • big picture market overview (hyperinflation?)
  • champagne "brugnon"+ delicious food from one of the 2 city's best catering companies dallmayr. btw, do u still remember the käfer-guys?
  • informal investor blah-blah abt markets, investment opportunities, hot stocks, soccer, south africa + africa + corruption slowing down the foreign investments, oil, gold, wheat investments (farm land!), ...
  • ...
me, trying and succeeding 2 open a bottle of rose champagne the traditional way ... like napoleon bonaparte used to ... by sword! hehe :-)
