have you ever seen this beautiful augustinian monastery from 1125 close to bavarian border when entering salzburg / austria? me, stupid, neither :-(

let 'save' here the idea to visit this beautiful monastery and beautiful lake höglwörther see next time when i will travel to austria and /or slovakia.

well, we made a break from long distance driving in the nearby sleepy village of anger, but i wasn't clever enough to ask google what interesting can be seen in the area. next time i will be smarter, promised. at least i wasn't angry when leaving anger as at that point i didn't know what i have missed just 2 or 3 kilometers away :-)

BGL ~ berchtesgadener land

let's upload few pictures from our so nice long weekend in the berchtesgadener land (BGL), the very southeast of germany.

our stops in the alps this time were:

• grünstein mountain 1304 m
• e-bike tour with friends to the kührointalm below the watzmann mountain (2713 m)
• lake königssee
• the historic city center of berchtesgaden
• scharitzkehlalm
• the 500 years old salt mine salzbergwerk in berchtesgaden
• dinner with friends in nearby salzburg / austria
• wimbachklamm canyon
• thumsee ~ more bavarian lakes here
• mauthäusl in the weißbachschlucht / weißbachklamm (weissbachschlucht)

the former refugee camp where í spent few weeks 29 years ago, now empty

 salt production before (by hand): 6 cm per day

salt production 2000 (by hand-machine): 2 m per shift
salt production today (by machine (special bagger): 6 m per shift
=> that's a great example how fast we ill-use earth's resources nowadays :-(

maria gern + kneifelspitze + lake königssee

the last day of my weekend in marzoll / berchtesgaden area (BGL) i have spent at the kneifelspitze and IN the lake königssee. yes, i swum in the ice cold lake as the air temperature outside was -1 degree celsius and the water temperature was maybe plus 3 or 4 degrees celsius, so it was warmer in the lake than outside, my dears :-)

and yes, there was weather inversion too, so i could take beautiful pictures at peak kneiflspitze today

wolpertinger (wild bavarian animals seen at mountain predigtstuhl above bad reichenhall)

take care, wolpertingers out there at mountain predigtstuhl (1613 m) above bad reichenhall. wolper what? wolpertinger is a rare bavarian animal, you know? just look it up in wikipedia (there are more pictures in german language article, but you can switch to english as well).

well, on the 3rd day of our wolfgangsee / austria trip on the way back we have visited the predigtstuhl mountain by world's oldest cable car still active in original state (predigtstuhlbahn from 1928) and after that walked around in bad reichenhall, the poor sister of its austrian salt mining cousin salzburg ...
