Gelnica ~ Göllnitz ~ Gölnicbánya, SK

coming closer to my ancestors' place and visiting next mining city in the area, Gelnica (Göllnitz) in the region spis (zips) in eastern slovakia ~ gold, silver, copper, iron ore, lead, quicksilver, ...
a praying miner in front of the mining museum
a hammer instead of a cross on the top of the local church? yes, the people here used to believe in mining, if you asked me 😄

1230 came the germans to this part of eastern slovakia because of an invitation by hungarian king after the mongols (wrongly named tatars?) killed huge parts of the slavic polulation here

#jarosells oil => pays taxes => #jarobuys vale + bhp billiton + rio tinto

what's the advantage of long blog titles? there is not much to add later on :-)

folks, please don't think the oil price is gonna collapse ... i would rather hold my trade till the end of january, but i couldn't ... well, my call option (call warrant) expired yesterday, so the goldman sachs guys sold it close to the daily low @ 3.50 €uros i think (brent oil was $113 per barrel yesterday) ... it is nice to be an emitter & market maker at one time, isn't it?

anyway, my trade from late march 2009 on brent oil and strike price $90 is 2.6 times the initial amount, so i've managed to make 160% profit on that thinny position ... unfortunately, the all-time-high for that paper was 4.82 €uros (probably when the oil price was $125 in april), so there could be even more money made, but i've somehow waited for a temporary (news driven) price spike which didn't come in the last 2 years  ... my dear, don't worry, i've one more open oil option, my bigger and less aggressive paper oil which runs one more year (till 11/12/2012) and has a strike price of only $70 (currently +117%) ...

why did i buy all these 3 major commodity producers and not any pennystocks this time? well, i just thought my always underfunded account will enjoy their fat dividends ;-)
  • vale (Companhia Vale do Rio Doce) ~ brasilian iron ore producer
  • bhp billiton ~ british/australian iron ore, coal, oil, base metals, potash etc producer
  • rio tinto ~ british/australian aluminium, copper, iron ore etc producer
as u can easily see, i've stolen (=source) that picture from my canadian oil explorer donnybrook

iron ore! alderon resource?

next investor lunch event 2day ~ alderon resource ~ my promising iron ore play from labrador (quebec / canada) ... why the hell iron ore? thats why!

china needs steel, a lot of steel! just in case you havent your calculator by hand, the difference between left and right picture is 20 years, not more, not less ... its as easy as that, iron ore :-)

well, i own already few shares since the encanto potash presentation in october when i just bought alderon res + alexco silver straight from daniels list without knowing any more than the name and a sentence or two abt their bussines/prospects ... btw, despite the crazy 2008-like mining market correction in the last few weeks, alexco is still +44% and alderon +50% since then :-)

iron ore projects are really easy to evaluate, u know? well, there should be some iron in the ground and then you need only 3 more things:

electric power + railway + port

alderon has all of them ;-) .... hmmmmm, a future many-bagger, isnt it?

ps: if u still have some money, take a look at alderons major shareholder, altius minerals (ALS.TO) as well. its a royalty company which reminds me on globex mining. why? prolly cos of the similarly few shares outstanding and similar business model. of course, globex is more early stage ie higher risk involved + higher returns in case of success ...

pps: do u still remember alderon's labrador neighbors cap-ex ventures? theyve been 2 munich 2 or 3 weeks ago ...

altona mining (copper mountain) + cap-ex ventures

a combined investor lunch event 2day => altona mining + cap-ex ventures

altona mining survived and became later copper mountain, symbol C6C at ASX) ,,, and even later part of hudbay minerals (HBM at TSX)
altona mining's project in finland
  • my well known copper play
  • great progress in finland ... btw, yesterday won the finnish ice-hockey team the world championship in slovakia (bratislava + my birth city kosice) against their archrival sweden by astonishing 6 : 1
  • great progress in australia dito => later merger of (almost?) equals with copper mountain, C6C
  • well financed ... of course, ive increased my holdings in altona's recent capital raising action few weeks ago ... unfortunately, the current market correction drove the share price below my purchase price :-(
  • anything special 2 mention? well, the CEO alistair cowdem seems to be serious abt what he talks as the company reaches one milestone after another => lets lean back and (with a little patience) lets enjoy the many-bagger future of that investment ;o)
  • ...
cap-ex
  • iron ore in quebec / canada
  • labrador trough ~ iron ore belt which stands for 99% of canadian iron ore production
  • 'plan nord' ~ development of infrastructure by quebec's government
  • very early stage projects
  • ...

anything else? coming soon or never 😄

northland resources? iron ore!

folks, there was the next investor lunch event @ käfer in munich yesterday. well, almost my whole family used 2 work at steel factory in kosice / eastern slovakia (me as well for few weeks as student 20+ years ago! i was the 'never sleeps' hot iron 'weighter' behind the railway scale in overnight shifts in my fathers smelting furnace department ~ its right after the fresh iron comes out of the oven => hot like hell!), thus iron ore, iron + steel often have been discussed at family table. although the factory is owned by u.s. steel now and only my younger brother still works there, my interest for steel business is still alive, u know? of course, ive welcomed the chance 2 attend the presentation (dont worry if u havent been there, the chairman anders hvide repeats the most important issues in the short video @ northland's website (news from january 26, 2011) ... well, im too tired now and a little bit sick on top, so lets just notice few issues before ill forget them 4ever :-):
  • iron ore exploration in sweden + finland
  • high quality + high content iron ore (69% Fe) => high premium above average iron ore price expected
  • start of production of the swedish mine in 2013, mine life 19 years, capex repaid in 4-5 years (or sooner?)
  • shipping via port narvik/norway 2 europe & china
  • well financed up to start of production => no additional financing and/or share dilution needed
  • same investment procedure as always: lets buy few shares + apply 4 companys newsletter + follow the developments + decide later whether 2 increase the initial investment or not. btw, my pilot buy few weeks ago (#jarobuys @ invitation in order 2 avoid the road show premium :D) is still slightly positive despite the sooooo weak general market for resource companies, thats a good sign, isnt it?
any risks out there? yes, of course, every explorer company is somehow risky ... lets mention just the imho most important one: the price of iron ore from 2013 on :-)

how does my iron ore division look like now?
  • vale
  • rio tinto
  • bhp billiton
  • cardero resources
  • alderon resources
  • cuervo resources
  • sherwin iron
  • matsa resources
  • globex mining
  • xstrata
  • talon metals
  • northland resources ~ welcome on board, my dear iron play!
go iron go! :o)
  • #jarobuys carpathian gold. why? these euroscandic / fortuna guys who present all that resource companies in munich believe its a fair priced opportunity, so lets give it a try as well :-). well, there is not a single loser in my portfolio out of their recommendations i think (and there are already approx 10-15 'euroscandic' companies out there! its fine if you have s.o. who pre-selects the really promising companies 4u, u see? btw, whats the story behind carpathian? very very simple! mr. market prices only their brazilian operations, their huuuuge romanian property isnt regarded at all! what if the political/environmental/etc issues work out well 4 carpathian in romania? that will be a many-bagger then, isnt it? carpathian gold 4 carpathian german like me? that sounds great, my dear!

what abt the book value of a company? i've bought 2 more commodity stocks 2day

i couldn't resist the temptation and bought (still cheap enough ) two more commodity stocks before these crazy price jumps today:
  • cbh resources - base metals, gold in australia
  • cardero resources - iron ore, copper, precious metals in peru, usa, argentina
folks, cardero's market capitalization is approx $56m. they've sold one of their iron ore properties in peru to a chinese investor for $100m and will receive the remaining $88m soon. what about working capital, book value, etc? they will not throw all that money out of window or gamble in casinos like dave & shoot recently ( lol), will they?

it sounds like a sound investment 2 me. i think benjamin graham & warren buffett would be very proud of me .

to see all comments, pls visit the informedtrades website here.

addendum, december 19, 2009: just wanna borrow CAD 87.341 million, who's gonna help me?

folks, stock markets are sooo crazy, you know? there are days i don't believe my eyes! do u know what do i do then?

well, i watch the unexpected stock price quote, look 4 possible company news, read the company message twice, look at the quote again, read the message again, sometime even try to put some funny numbers into my calculator (and always throw the calculator away as it neither gives me a result nor an answer as i'm prolly too stupid to use it anyway), then take a walk, drink next cup of coffee, watch the new quote after returning back ... btw, you can call yourself 'happy' because you don't need 2 hear how ugly do i swear abt the sooo stupid homo sapiens financialis on days like that

i know, dear readers of my blog, you still remeber these strange cardero resources guys with all their strange iron ore, gold, copper projects in peru/usa/argentina, don't you?

well, the current quote was abt +25% today. me, happy, thought: hell, they've found the next eldorado or got a bulk of money from FED for ZERO interest rate or BOTH! forget it, nothing like that happened! what was the market mover 2day then? yep, the chinese partners have paid the remaining USD 88 million (USD is correct!) on their major peruvian iron ore property. hmmm, of course they did, why shouldn't they? well, the stock closed trading @ its day low, which was +14.62%, anyway.

we've spoken abt all these book value / cash reserves / etc. things above. hmmmm, what's your guess concerning the current market capitalization of cardero? ... you are right, it is only CAD 87.341 million. again, CAD is correct! also i don't see the current cad/usd ratio i can tell you the buck is even stronger than the loonie at the moment! (i have both currencies as usd/eur + cad/eur pairs in my watch list, because i do sometimes compare (~not compute! still the same calculator issue) the prices of my u.s. + canadian stocks in germany and america, you know?)

UNBELIEVABLE! the've just got USD 88 million + still have plenty of cash from the 1st rate payment of USD 12m + mineral deposits in peru/usa/argentina + investments in other companies like the 2 which i've posted above + petty cash + whatever else they own/posses !!! do you call markets RATIONAL?

well, lets borrow the antic CAD 87.341 million + buy the whole company + enjoy the UNBELIEVABLE!-assets!!!

hell, hell, hell! this investing stuff is sooooooo easy :-)

thx, mr. market, thx!

ps: does someone have the telephone number of the money-printing-wonder bernanke? of course, just in case there will be not enough money to borrow inside the blogger community :-)
