southampton

our next stop? southampton ... well, you have to go deep into eastern europe in order to see a city so run-down as southampton => feeling like at home :-)

even at the sea-side the are almost no cafes, restaurants, no promenade for pedestrians ... just huge parking places in front of the ferries, traffic roads and much much empty space in superior location ... and what about the titanic, which left southampton for its first and final trip? you will not find any titanic ship / museum / model in the harbour ... just a titanic pub which we've found by accident and where i've had few beers with quite old local folks :-)

but anyway, we liked the remaining historic sites of southampton a lot: the survived parts of the medieval city walls, old city gates, few nice houses, the ruin of the church tower in the middle of the main street from arundel tower (arundel gate?) to the harbour ,,,

back to london / collector blog about our trip to south england

and yes, in southhamton we have had our most expensive accommodation in south england. probably because there are not many folks travelling there and thus there is not much supply and demand ... and no real competition (all hotels we have seen on the internet were similar expensive ~ 120 pounds per night without breakfast)

enjoy few pictures
sea-side ... no additional comment needed, are they?

salisbury

after we have missed the entry to the windsor castle 2 days ago, we have decided to spent a lot of time in (the cathedral of) salisbury in order to satisfy our 'old england' cliche (london, ...).

our nicest memories of salisbury? the concert of phat bollard in the pedestrian zone as we sat there for lunch. even if i couldn't understand all of their lyrics i had the feeling that their music and their intention is about waking people up and move them from consumerism and obedience into a nice world of love, sharing and self-responsibility ... like #OccupyWallStreet two years ago => #OccupyAllStreets + #OccupyTogether and yes, the great CDs from phat bollard can bring the south england feeling to our living room in munich / germany any time we want to :-)

stonehenge

our next stop after london + windsor were the old, old stones of stonehenge ... 4,500 years old, they say ... well, everyone we spoke to about stonehenge told us we will be disappointed, so we didn't expect much and were not disappointed ... we even really liked the 30 minutes walk (instead of using the cars to the visitor centre) on the way back beside old (celtic?) graves and through the fields and forest ... but the best about stonehenge was our accommodations some 10 miles away. a small inn with only 4 tourist rooms and a pub from 16th century ...

enjoy few pictures

TRUE, of course

we preferred to walk back to the visitor centre instead a train-car transfer
let's bring there 1 more stone :-)

windsor (castle)

there is a famous castle, isn't there? well, we came to the ticket office at 4:15 pm and yes, it closed at 4 pm. wtf? well, we have seen the castle walls from outside, the small town as well and had a nice coffee break at the river thames, ... maybe we can see it some other time or never, who knows? it is not far away from our former stop london, but it is not on our stuff-to-see-list any longer ....

few pictures

queen victoria in my pocket ~ 1873 ~ one pound then equals 196 pounds today ... what will be today's pound be worth in 141 years? let's take a bet: almost ZERO :-)

london

enjoy view insights + pictures from my father-daughter-program in london & south england

first of all, we have had nice weather as you can easily see at the pictures and yes, we have had nice time there. i have been to london 20+ years ago, but what surprised me this time most was that i didn't feel like abroad. strange, isn't it? maybe because we spoke german to each other and i also met 3 friends there i spoke german, slovak and english to. and yes, many things were somehow similar to our last year's father-daughter-program in new york. maybe because of the overwhelming surveillance all over the city :-( ... omg, dear broken system #stopwatchingus you can't afford it anyway😏

our next stops after london were (pictures + stories follow soon, i hope):
st. pancras station. we have seen it every day, but not only therefore it is this my favourite london view

gaza still under fire :-(

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. ~ Edmund Burke, Irish orator, philosopher, & politician (1729 - 1797)

No one could make a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little. ~ Edmund Burke

the idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with the world ~ dr. paul farmer

few decades ago ....

... it is not any different today 😓

every few years start israel a 'war' against palestinians because of various strange (and often unconfirmed) reasons. the last one was in november 2012

many call it war but it is not war, it is murder (noam chomsky on israels attacks on gaza,  2012): ... The Israeli decision to rain death and destruction on Gaza, to use lethal weapons of the modern battlefield on a largely defenseless civilian population, is the final phase in a decades-long campaign to ethnically-cleanse Palestinians.
Israel uses sophisticated attack jets and naval vessels to bomb densely-crowded refugee camps, schools, apartment blocks, mosques, and slums to attack a population that has no air force, no air defense, no navy, no heavy weapons, no artillery units, no mechanized armor, no command in control, no army… and calls it a war. It is not a war, it is murder. ... read the full article here:http://notlurking.com/www.salem-news.com/a/57OJ
