my performance 2010 + outlook 2011

folks, a great great year is over, the stock-exchanges in germany closed @ 2 pm ...

already 2009 was a great (after-crash) year, but 2010 was a mere frenzy for my accounts! guys, ive made more in the markets than in my office job :-) ... much much more ... ie approx 1.5 times more ... pls dont think abt the term 'trading 4 living' cos im not going 2 do that in the near future as it is a big big difference between having to earn money and to withdraw money 4 living each month out of the accounts on the one hand and just playing with surplus money in the markets on the other hand, u know? ... OMG! i still cant believe my success in the markets ... well, cos of my perspective of the financial/economical world out there and my outlook 2011 im not going 2 sell (m)any of my hero-performer-stocks any time soon, so the most profits are still fictive right now :-)

so what happened 2010? my market outlook a year ago was right and so was my strategy! yep, we had an inflationary hard assets rally as commodities and commodity stocks rallied like crazy. imho it is no wonder facing all that stupid bailouts, stimulus packages, quantitative easing and other similar fraudulent interventions ... it doesnt looks like if there is a major change for better to the current investment environment out there, so despite the much higher commodity prices i dont have to adjust/change my old market outlook a lot if at all [wanna read part c) in last years blog?]. its amazing 2 read old stuff after the time has proven what was right and what not, isnt it?
  • my micro trading account: commodity CFDs (natural gas, silver, wheat, orange juice, coffee, sugar, corn, rice) ... ive often managed to increase my positions on dips in the huge uptrend ... of course, ive sometimes exited the markets too soon cos the prices went after a short correction much higher without my involvement (eg. sugar, coffee) ... what abt performance in numbers? my account is up 344% as ive withdrawn 12k out of an 4.3k account during the year and there is still 7k left ... i will update the 'final' numbers when the u.s. market closes 2night ... => +347.80% in 2010 :-)
  • my investing account: mining stocks (approx 95% of all funds i think), energy stocks, agriculture/food stocks, call options 4 oil, water + new energy ETFs and few technology stocks. well, i was lucky 2 increase my holdings many times this year, especially in august before the gold/silver rally started. i hope those of you who followed my opinions/ideas and have chosen few of my picks for yourselves dont complain too loud, there are not many mining stocks among them which increased less than 100% in 2010, so it was not too difficult to grab a big portion of their moves i think :-). well, lets mention few of my top performers: rio alto mining (a 33-bagger since december 2008), novagold (21-bagger since december 2008), 1st majestic silver, orko silver, silver wheaton, us gold, us silver, megastar development, andover ventures, western potash, commerce resources, aquila res, zimtu capital, xstrata, rio tinto, endeavor silver, fortuna silver, source res, vg gold, cardero res, amerigo res, levon res (19-bagger since february 2009), sabina gold + silver, minera andes, alderon res, mirasol res, rubicon minerals, dundee precious metals, hecla mining, paramount gold + silver, bhp billiton, great panther silver, adamus res, 1st quantum minerals, source exploration, energold drilling, altona mining, premier gold, scorpio mining, ... btw, what abt my performance in numbers? hmmmm, its 2 difficult 2 compute it as i hold my positions usually longer than a year and i continuous increase my positions if there is some fresh money available like recently in august + november ... the current balance of all open positions is +86.56% ... well, my portfolio is posted on my website anyway, so if u are really interested in it shouldnt take u more than 3 minutes 2 find it :-)
lets look forward 2 the year of the rabbit, lets look forward to 2011 ... and ...

... lets create a happy new year :-)

final update after the market closed: well, the commodity markets were up a lot yesterday, all my trading positions were 'green', one of my top 10 days ever i think, highest gains with gas + rice for a daily profit of 13.39% => the performance of my micro trading account in 2010 was +347.80%

ps: its just crazy that after my stocks on thursday closed the year at highest level ever, even my CFDs rallied on friday on the very last trading session in 2010 to my personal all-time-high

pps: there were many reasons for my success in 2010, see the prolly most important in the chart below:

(my favorite markets rallied like crazy ;-)

ron paul 4 president!

addendum october 5th, 2012: ron paul on war in middle east, enjoy his insights in this short 50 seconds video from june 2011...

... one more speech on gaza / israel / middle east  (may 2011)

~~~
addendum september 17th, 2012: The attack on the US consulate in Libya and the killing of the US Ambassador and several aides is another tragic example of how our interventionist foreign policy undermines our national security. The more the US tries to control the rest of the world, either by democracy promotion, aid to foreign governments, or by bombs, the more events spin out of control into chaos, unintended consequences, and blowback. (ron paul's weekly newsletter)
~~~

addendum january 6th, 2012: what a clear agenda to change the current destructive course to freedom & peace & prosperity! hell, why do only soooo few folks listen + support the ideas of freedom?

~~~
ron paul on WikiLeaks, freedom, wars, government, government's lies, thomas jefferson, ...
wanna watch more abt FREEDOM? well, its 1 hour and 14 minutes of tough stuff ... enjoy anyway and of course, folks lets fight for freedom and against corrupt politicians and their small dirty regulators whenever and whereever we can! will you?
life cycle of the typical mining stock
source: Zimtu Capital Corp. = one of my portfolio companies. btw, zimtu's strategy is to enter the opportunity before the IPO ;-)
folks, mining is soooo exciting, u know? wanna read abt my investment approach?
1.) how 2 choose stocks 2 buy?
a) well, i follow the markets daily and i also attend a lot of commodity oriented events like the precious metals fair, other (smaller) commodity shows, investor lunch events for few (approx 10 - 20) invited folks and the like. leftovers is easy, i buy stocks i liked most  ... my decisions are based basically on my impression or personal criteria like e.g. company's partners & investors [when folks like rob mcewen, eric sprott, paulson, soros, silver wheaton, pan american silver, xstrata and the like are also invested i believe its almost risk free 2 get involved myself ] ... i dont look-up the company website, financial news, earnings reports and the like at that stage ... of course, im easy 2 impress i think ... after the 1st small 'pilot' buy i subscribe companies newsletters, start following their development and if appropriate i increase my positions
b) my 2nd decision method: i scroll down my portfolio sorted descending by current position value and where my eyes 'stops' thats the stock i increase my holdings in ~ ie intuition again
2.) most potential for long term gains?
i think its the explorers & junior mining stocks
3.) why explorers & junior mining stocks?
well, this one is the easiest one! its based on the 'life cycle of the typical mining stock' [~ idea => IPO => discovery => a looooong development period i.e. the 2nd chance 2 buy these stocks cheap => production & cash-flow & dividends = the boring fat cat phase of stock's life]
cheers
btw, wanna look-up the mining ABC issues?
ps: ist there any risk involved? yep, of course there is a huuuuge risk involved: the discovery isnt good enough (too low metal grades, too small overall amonunt of the commodity contained, etc), mngmt not able 2 raise enough money 2 build-up a mine, legal/environmental issues, political risk (congo, ecuador, venezuela, russia, ...), management failure, sometimes even pure fraud (eg the only 'asset' is an advertising/promotion campaign), drop in commodity prices so that the production isnt economical anymore and a lot of similar stuff ... well, thats why i own 100+ mining companies and tend rather 2 increase my existing positions in the good ones than 2 buy a new strongly promoted company, u know?
anything else? hmmm, probably one famous quote about the gold mining industry / stocks:
gold mine is a hole in the ground with a liar at the top ~ mark twain
xmas salary => xmas shopping
folks, the headline is the program this time => lets buy few new mining stocks 4 my portfolio and/or lets increase the existing positions => #jarobuys:
  • arafura resources
  • century mining
  • cequence energy - partner of donnybrook energy
btw, im going 2 buy 3 australian mining stocks on monday, u can look-up the companies monday evening :-)
  • morning star gold
  • matsa resources
  • #3 (limit order not fulfilled :-) ... few days later ... bought 100,000 shares of gold explorer sultan corp @ AUD 0.006 ... well, they explore some properties in montenegro and some in australia ... btw, will the company survive (and the stock price multiply many times) or will it go bankrupt? whats your bet?
#jarobuys few more stocks on monday:
  • nanostart ag ~ nanotechnology
  • sgl carbon ~ graphite!!!
  • uc resources ~ silver
Donnybrook Energy
source: www.donnybrookenergy.ca
next investor lunch event 2day ~ Donnybrook Energy Inc ~
well, the donnybrook story was presented by both the donnybrook and donner metals director dave patterson => #jarobuys few more donner shares 2day cos they are still cheap like an unwanted pet => that investment stuff is as easy as that
btw, what do these irish sounding guys do? also easy! theyve acquired a big land package in alberta / canada and now they look for some major gas & oil discovery.
folks, i didnt buy any initial position in donnybrook yet cos the stock tripled since august and thus appears somehow 2 expensive 4 me, u know? well, was prolly a mistake cos the donnybrook rallied +9.76% 2day
... just came back from a short walk through snowy streets .... u know what? no experiments this time! lets stick 2 strategy which guided me soooo well this year => lets make some small pilot buy 2morrow (gonna place a buy order at 2days closing quote CAD 0.45) + apply 4 companys newsletter + start 2 follow donnybrooks development .... and yes, lets buy few shares of their drilling partner cequence energy as well ;o))
nasty jokes ;o)
what about stock market jokes? well, lets look at the definitions 1st! (source i.e. 'stolen from' informedtrades.com here):
  • A long term investment is a short term investment that failed.
  • A stockbroker is someone who invests your money till it's all gone!
  • A market analyst is an expert who will know tomorrow why the things he predicted yesterday didn't happen today!
---
It was so cold today I saw a stockbroker with his hands in his own pockets.
---
Q: Why did God create stock analysts ?
A: In order to make weather forecasters look good.
---
A minister dies and is waiting in line at the Pearly Gates. Ahead of him is a guy who's dressed in sunglasses, a loud shirt, leather jacket, and jeans. Saint Peter addresses this guy, "Who are you, so that I may know whether or not to admit you to the Kingdom of Heaven?"
The guy replies, "I'm Joe Cohen, stockbroker, of Noo Yawk City." Saint Peter consults his list. He smiles and says to the stockbroker, "Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven." The stockbroker goes into Heaven with his robe and staff, and it's the minister's turn. He stands erect and booms out, "I am Joseph Snow, pastor of Saint Mary's for the last forty-three years."
Saint Peter consults his list. He says to the minister, "Take this cotton robe and wooden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven."
"Just a minute," says the minister. "That man was a stockbroker-- he gets a silken robe and golden staff but I, a minister, only get a cotton robe and wooden staff? How can this be?"
"Up here, we work by results," says Saint Peter. "While you preached, people slept; his clients, they prayed."
---
and here comes a very old one from myself which proved sooo right in the nasty october 2008:
stock market crash is worse than a divorce: half the money is away, but the wife is still there :)
---
no stocks, no scares =)) (seaofmoney)
folks, feel free 2 add additional jokes as comments below (nick name is better than anonymous) or just sent me a message so i can include them here ;-)
don't panic (yet). that's just a fiction.
what abt some preparations? gold? silver? farm land?
just my 2 golden cents
... this one is no fiction :-(
precious metals fair, munich / germany
folks, soooo many impressions abt the precious metals fair / show / conference right now ...
lets start with few key notes from day #1 (friday):
  • soooo many 'old' faces from the previous years (mining companies representatives, book/newsletter authors, precious metals dealers, visitors, fund managers, ...)
  • attended few interesting presentations ...
  • visited many of 'my' resource companies (there are more than 20 out of approx 80 exhibitors in my portfolio already, so there is much to do tomorrow as well ... its nice 2 get an update abt ongoing developments from the CEOs directly, u know?)
  • met rob mcewen, one of the savviest gold/silver investors out there (u.s. gold, rubicon, minera andes, vg gold, lexam explr, colt resources, ...)
rob mcewen + me
gonna learn german?
  • met also few other folks :)
  • met 3 rabbits ~ bought some silver (physical, of course!) ~ the year of the rabbit coins for 2011 in order to have at least that much luck + success in the markets next year as in the current year of the tiger :-)
  • met few old friends ...
  • bought few stocks:
  1. globex mining ~ approx +90 different projects in north america ~ Au, Ag, various industrial metals, rare earths, talc ~ increased existing position
  2. clifton star resources ~ gold in queebec/canada ~ a strong partnership with osisko mining  @  their major project ~ new in my portfolio ~ BONJOUR!
  3. colt resources ~ gold + tungsten (= 'wolfram') in portugal ~ new in my portfolio ~ btw, thats prolly rob mcewens latest resource investment and the stock is already 40-50% higher than it was before the announcement of the corresponding transaction. any cold comfort? yep! the announcement was 1st, the crazy stock price movement was 2nd ... well, there are so many examples in the industry where 1st moves the price on heavy insiders trading and than (few days later and many many % higher) comes out the relevant message which explains all former WHYs ;-( ... anyway, to be honest, i prefer much more if im already invested and then rob steps in, u know? that was soooooo great for my portfolio when he invested in 'my' strugggggling vg gold a year ago! vg gold advanced +127% on that news on the very 1st day, of course :-). folks, i think u think ive bought colt cos rob did. true? nope! when investing, youve 2 pay special attention 2 the HARD FACTS, u know? a) they gave visitors an USB data stick with highest capacity of 4GB among all present companies. just 2 give u the dimension of the difference, some competitors provided sticks with laughable capacity of 256MB, which is 16-times (!!!) less => there is not a single grain of greed @ colt resources, u see? b) they have helen  (my heart). guys, believe me, u have 2 walk miles + miles till u see a 'comparable' pretty being. picture of her? nope! phone number? nope + nope! im telling u, do not beg, my dear. simply forget it, no picture 4 sure ... why? ... hmmmm ....... me, stupid idiot, forgot 2 make one :-(. u wanna at least the names of the greedies among the miners? of course i know them, but im not going 2 tell u cos two of them belong to my biggest portfolio positions yet, thus not wanna cause heavy selling in them before stepping out myself => hard facts, hard facts, hard facts! its all abt HEART facts :-)
  4. hell, hell, hell! i didnt get focus minerals (gold in australia) in germany even if i offered the ask price => ??? => lets hope i will get the stock even cheaper in australia on monday morning ;o). OMG! strange crazy world! the (sunday) night just started here in munich, in australia is prolly monday morning yet! why? myyyyyy shiny australian shares have been already traded and here they are lying in my account ... and on top theyre even cheaper and with lower commissions than at german stock exchanges. lessons learned? HEART facts + patience :-)
  5. some small additional 'shopping' will continue next week i think => thus after my buying offensive of the last few weeks there should be enough gold / silver / commodities in my portfolio, i hope ;-). well, ill update the company names below 2morrow evening ... here we go:
  6. the 2nd australian newbies beside focus in my portfolio are the iron ore fellows @ sherwin iron
  7. batero gold corp ~ gold in colombia ~ new in my portfolio
  8. EnWave corp ~ dehydration of food + medicine ~ increased existing position ~ i liked what the Co-CEO john told me
  9. soltoro ltd ~ silver/gold in mexico ~ increased existing position ~ i liked what CEO andrew told me
  10. detour gold ~ gold in canada ~ new in my portfolio ~ they werent @ the fair i think ~ its the top pick from one buddys gold list ~ lets use the excess liquidity @ my margin account therefor :-)
  11. amerigo resources ~ addendum tuesday 11/09/10 ~ the prolly last cheap stock on the entire TSX board ~ copper/molybdenum in chile ~ increased existing position
  12. great panther resources ~ silver in mexico ~ increased existing position
  13. end of money = end of shopping :-)
many new positions, isnt it? whats next? same procedure as always: lets subscribe for investor newsletters + lets watch their developments + let the intuition decide if i should increase/decrease my stake in the future ;o)
... a looooooong night in between ...
what abt day #2 (saturday)?
  • the globex mining guys invited few crazy folks like myself to an investor breakfast in the top floor of their centrally located hotel at a cruel cruel time, so that my ugly buzzer expelled my poor body from my nice-hot bed BEFORE 7 O'CLOCK!!! got it? it was on saturday, a day when all prudent folks make up their sleep deficites for the week! just unbelievable, these canadian miners, im gonna tell ya ;o). of course i wasnt awake enough and couldnt use my key-card properly to convince the elevator to lift me up ... ohhhh ... after some help from the hotel staff i was there and u wouldnt believe what a beastly view provides munichs roofs in that part of the city! such a nice hotel in such an unsightly neighborhood! anyway, at least it was easy and fast to reach the fair afterwards, thats just one example how experience pays off for fair's long term attendees globex, u see? after perceived 5 litres of coffee i could follow the discussion, hero me! in a familiar atmosphere presented the CEO jack stoch and his wife dianne few of their +90 projects & upcomimg issues, explained their joint venture & spin-off of advanced projects approach, asked for ideas for potential improvements and much more. folks, pls do me a favor, will you? pls   d o   n o t   ask me which metals is globex involved in! look better at the table below and ask jack or go 2 companys website in order 2 find out in which theyre are not, hahaha ... last but not least, there are only approx 22m globex shares out there, many of them owned by the mngmt and thus not 4 sale ...
    huuuuh? one empty seat out there?
    the ultimate periodic chart! both source and a great resource 2 study natural resources ~
    • asked bruno bandulet 2 sign his gold book i read currently 4 me. folks, these guy runs a gold/silver subscription service since 1979, i think. thats what i call stamina + experience
    • bought few more silver coins i liked. folks, pls dont think im heavily buying bullion at current prices ie gold $1,400 and silver $26, im not. why not? i hope i have already enough... btw, last time ive bought a significant amount of silver was the xmas 2009 when the paper silver price was approx $16 and i could buy directly from one of my best performing companies, 1st majestic silver at $18 per ounce. btw, they gave investors in munich the most silver per €uro this time [1 oz SILVER = 20 €uros = a thinny piece of worthless(?) PAPER] while the paper silver price is $26. a buddy of mine checked the prices @ all other booths there... wanna read more abt gold/silver yet? pls read my old old old 'summary' blog post HERE :-).
    • met my remaining companies representatives, attended 2 more presentations
    silver? gold? both?
    me, scorpio mining, soltoro ltd (left 2 right)
    • had a beer (or 2?) with friends after the event ...
    there was also an unofficial day #3 (sunday), u know? well, cos not all visitors leave munich the very next second the show is over, laura from clifton star resources invited few analysts, newsletter writers, the famous silver guru david morgan (btw, david was also one of the key speakers at the conference), my wife + myself 2 a tasty breakfast in a hotel near munichs main station. weve talked abt the markets, investments, freedom, constitution, energy and many other things ... u wouldnt believe that there are also more important things on planet earth than the current price per ounce of gold or silver, would u?
    does everyone still remember last years event? yes? fine. no? fine, just follow that link :-)
    cheers!
    changed my mind ...
    hell! hell! hell! ive decided 2 change my plans .... well, ive planned to use 5k of my lovely trading profits for some special short term opportunities, u know? the last 3 or 4 'opportunities' a buddy of mine told me were companies without any substance (IMHO) and the only reason the most of them really advanced was a corresponding pushing via diverse newsletters, email lists etc (MHO again). ive bought 2 of them ... one is a complete loss and the 2nd went slowly up and would make up the first loss but i sold immediately at a very low profit after i understood the 'story' ... lets learn from this mistakes and lets stick 2 informed trades/investments in the future ;-)
    of course i need a dollar and wanna make money in the markets ... but not that way, u know? so what 2 do?
    soooo sad :-( reptil leather & destroeyd tiger's habitat ;o( LETS BOYCOTT SUCH PRODUCTS!
     OMG! sooo many killed wild animals each year ;-(  ... FOLKS, LETS BOYCOTT SUCH PRODUCTS!
    anyway, pls watch the 15 min documentary video (swiss television, german language)
    gonna support the animals or the reckless profit seeking industry? it is YOUR CHOICE, you know?
    what abt sumatra's tigers? as sad as the previous story :-( ... pls watch the 2 min WWF video:
    people who are happy with themselves dont need dead animals or more money to make them happier, do they? well, lets become happy and satisfied with a peaceful mind, with stuff we already possess, there is no need for more nature destructing 'achievements' i think ...
    "There is enough for everybody's need, but not enough for anybody's greed" ~ Mahatma Gandhi
    Saturday, October 30, 2010
    OMG!
    OMG! whos crazy and whos not? ENJOY :-)
    alexco resource? SILVER!
    next investor lunch event, the #337 i think ... just kidding, of course :)
    well, i like these events ... i like 2 talk 2 company representatives, to meet few old faces i know already 4 years and there is always s.th. to learn abt the stocks, commodities, industry insights, markets, metals & more
    and its profitable as well! just imagine, its just 2 weeks ago when ive really noticed alexco for the 1st time as it was mentioned by euroscandic's daniel at the encanto potash presentation. ive bought few shares at that time and the stock quotes 27% higher 2day!!! well, i liked what ive heard from both the CEO and largest alexcos shareholder clynton nauman, so ive prompt decided 2 buy few more shares ... by some fortunate coincidence i came 2 my wife's notebook when the price was CAD 6.12 and thus before the major portion of 2days +5.67% increase ... last quote? CAD 6.34
    any special issues?
    • yukon / canada
    • historic production of many millions ounces of silver in the district
    • there is also zinc, lead, indium out there ... how much? well, if they hedged their Zn/Pb production at current prices they would get all that shiny silver for free + make a huuuge profit + could unload all leftover indium in my garden ;-). hell! i woudda know what 2 do with this stuff, u know?
    • high high high grades! unbelievable high grades! ive never heard abt average silver grades above 40 ounces per ton before ... prolly only the silver mountain in potosi / bolivia had such grades hundreds years ago :)
    • even the historical tailings have higher silver grades than most silver producers encounter currently (sorry, forgot the precise number, not going 2 search that at alexcos website cos it smells like work, u see?)
    • an own environmental division which already generates some cash flow and is prolly going to clean up the whole mining district after all mining is done few years from now
    • a strong partnership with silver wheaton which funded CAD 50m in order 2 build up the 1st mine in exchange of some part of silver produced. got it? SLW guys DO NOT invest in shity properties or shity companies, so its going 2 be a great success here, i believe ;-)
    • well financed
    • relatively low number of shares outstanding and no additional dilution planned (u still remember that the CEO is also a major shareholder, dont u?)
    • any risks? of course, mining is risky! ive told u that already, didnt i? what abt much lower metal prices, bad luck, some technical problems within the mine and/or mill, the current quite high stock price level, no luck at all in order 2 increase their low proven/inferred/indicated mineral reserves  ... or all of that? who knows?
    • anything more? yes, yes, yes! the production is going 2 start within the Q4/2010. wanna know how 'far' away is that? yes? damn! where is my calendar gone?
    any pictures out there? well, there is no current mining production @ alexco, thus lets look at the old one. how? dont worry, 2day i had both a day off and also my most creative day of the week and thought i coudda steal some pictures out of alexcos video presentation from their website => enjoy:
    good luck, my lovely alexco resource, good luck
    nicolas darvas: how i made $2,000,000 in the stock market
    hell! was there a famous world class dancer of hungarian origin who has made $2,000,000 out of thiny $10,000 in 18 months in 1958-1959? wanna look up the official u.s. inflation calculator in order 2 see how much have $2m in 2days inflationary dollars 'grown'? pls do yourself a favor and DONT TRY 2 compute the corresponding amount using not official, not doctored, not hedonic, pre-clinton, real inflation numbers ('price 2day - price before' => real inflation is really as simple as that!)  ... wanna visit john williams' shadow statistics?
    ok, lets think abt the stuff i could remember after finishing that thinny booklet, where many issues were simplified in order to make it easier to understand ...
    well, i liked it! why? 1st because it was really easy 2 digest and 2nd cos it was funny and interesting anyway. damn! already in the first 10 or 15 pages listed nicolas darvas that many mistakes he did in the beginning of his investor carreer that i asked myself why didnt i read this book before ive started my investor carreer ... it would cost me less than 10 euros instead of many thousands ive lost myself on following strange rumours, overtrading, commissions, subscribing financial services, newsletters, having pet stocks, throwing all money available in the markets, forecasting instead of following mr. market, my ego, not having an exit strategy and the like ... just kidding, of course i do know that we have 2 do the most mistakes by ourselves, otherwise we dont really remember them :-)
    there was at least one big difference between darvas and me! he sold his stocks if he was wrong and didnt carried too heavy losses on single positions ... of course i didnt and there are still 'dead' stocks in my portfolio they are 95% or more below my original purchase price and there were also stocks which are no longer listed cos of bankruptcies etc.
    what abt his BOX theory and abt his market approach? buy high, sell higher! is it really as easy as that? nope! watch also the volume (rising price + high volume!), cos there are already insiders who know more than mr. market + the general public at that time abt companys affairs. ignore all news/rumours abt a stock and take your decisions only based on your stocks behaviour ... make small pilot buys and follow your stocks closely in order to 'feel' them ... increase your position as long as the trend continues ... use automatic buy + sell orders ... always use stop-loss-orders! they will protect your capital ... buy if a stock moves into a higher box (we would prolly say ranges instead of boxes 2day) ... sell if the stocks fells below the box or on some other unexpected/unwanted behaviour ...
    darvas considered himself as investor + trend follower + techno-fundamentalist and he didnt advocated short-term trading ... as for me, he was a trader who didnt paid too much attention to the fundamentals of his companies and only reacted 2 rising price & volume ....
    any additional comments? yep, i could motivate my youngest daugther again and she typewrited few interesting rules 4u:
    EVIL:
    1. I should not follow advisory services. They are not infallible, either in canada or on wall street
    2. I should be cautious with brokers' advice. They can be wrong.
    3. I should ignore wall street sayings, no matter how ancient and revered.
    4. I should not trade “over the counter” -only in listed stocks where there is always a buyer when I want to sell.
    5. I should not listen to rumors, no matter how founded they may appear. (btw, that was 4 him easier 2 arrange when he was touring the world as a night club dancer and only got his daily stock quotes telegrams than when he lived in NY :-)
    6. The fundamental approach worked better for me than gambling. I should study it.
    7. I should rather hold on to one rising stock for a longer period than juggle with a dozen stocks for a short period at a time.
    GOOD:
    1. stocks with quality rating
    2. stocks the experts like
    3. stocks selling below book value
    4. stocks with strong cash position
    5. stocks that have never cut their dividend
    6. the strongest industry group
    7. the strongest company within that industry group
    how 2 act (re-defined objectives in the stock market):
    1. right stocks
    2. right timing
    3. small losses
    4. big profits
    weapons 2 use:
    1. price and volume
    2. box theory
    3. automatic buy-order
    4. stop-loss sell-order
